With the addition of the ‘DEFAULT PARAMS’ button in the print section and the redesign of the X and Z reports, the latest update to the TouchScale XS software transforms technical complexity into an intuitive experience.

Version 8.0 of the TouchScale XS range is not just a cosmetic change; it is a profound evolution focused on operational efficiency and technical reliability. Epelsa has redefined certain functions to eliminate day-to-day errors. The result is a system designed to ensure the till never stops running, incorporating a ‘rescue button’ capable of autonomously resolving 95 per cent of printing issues, and a more intuitive account-closing process that is fully integrated with sales data.

New printer settings

The DEFAULT PARAMS button is one of the key innovations in version 8.0 of the TouchScale XS balance, designed to simplify maintenance and technical support for the printing system.

This button is available in the two configuration menus for printing devices:

- Receipt printer: Settings menu > BAL > Printer.

- Labeller: Configuration Menu > BAL > Labeller.

When the DEFAULT PARAMS button is pressed, the software automatically loads a set of very permissive predefined values for the following technical parameters:

- Print speed: Adjusts the motor to a steady speed.

- Firing time: Sets a balanced contrast for thermal printing.

- Sensor thresholds: Configures the sensitivity for detecting the presence of paper, the backing paper and any potential jams.

The main advantage of this button is its 95 per cent effectiveness; in other words, it is designed to ensure the balance prints correctly in almost any situation without the need for complex manual adjustments.

Its implementation addresses several common issues identified in previous versions:

- Solution to configuration errors: If a user enters incorrect values (“random values”) that cause the label to print erratically or become blurred, this button restores normal operation instantly.

- Alternative to auto-calibration: Although an auto-calibration function is available, it may fail due to external factors such as ambient light or paper tension. The DEFAULT PARAMS button provides a safe setting that bypasses these critical variables.

More intuitive management of totals and closings

In version 8 of XS, we have completely overhauled this section so that operators spend less time navigating through menus and more time serving customers at the counter. In previous versions, all the functions were crammed into a single window, which was confusing and prone to errors.

Now, in the Settings menu, the operator will find direct buttons for X (reading report) and Z (closing and clearing report). Following a one-off initial setup in ‘X-Z Settings’, the user simply needs to press a button on the main settings screen to carry out the closing procedure.

By separating the reports from the deletion process, the confusion found in previous versions – where the user was unsure whether printing would also result in data being deleted – has been eliminated.

The Totals window has been simplified to act solely as a reference and viewing tool.

Furthermore, to ensure that accounting information is never lost, a specific ‘Deletions’ tab has been created within the totals settings.

The system allows you to schedule the generation of the ‘Z’ report and the subsequent deletion of data to run unattended, which is ideal for businesses with fixed opening hours. An automatic ‘Z’ can be set for a specific date and time or on a weekly basis.

These clearing tasks can be protected by a security PIN (up to 8 digits) known only to the administrator. This ensures that automatic closings are accessible only to authorised staff, adding an extra layer of control and accounting security.

Version 8.0 of TouchScale XS does not add complexity. It eliminates it.

The result is a system that ensures the till never stops running, data is never lost, and the operator does not need to be a technician to use it.

That is what it really means to understand the retail sector.
